Engaging Axminster Community College Students in Innovative Physical Activity
At Axminster Community College, we’ve embarked on an exciting journey with Year 10 and 11 students to enhance their health and wellbeing through innovative physical activities. Our program focuses on engaging children in non-traditional exercise methods, moving beyond the usual sports and gym routines.
One of the standout activities in our program involves the use of Concept 2 rowers. These rowing machines are not just for athletes; they offer a fun and effective way for students to get moving and stay fit. By incorporating these rowers, Axminster Community College created a series of team-based challenges that promote both physical fitness and teamwork.
The students have embraced these challenges with enthusiasm. Working in teams, they compete in various rowing exercises that test their endurance, strength, and coordination. These activities are designed to be inclusive, ensuring that every student, regardless of their fitness level, can participate and benefit.
The impact has been remarkable. Students are not only improving their physical health but also developing important life skills such as cooperation, communication, and perseverance. The team-based nature of the challenges fosters a sense of community and support among the students, making exercise a fun and social activity.
By stepping away from traditional exercise methods and introducing creative, engaging activities like the Concept 2 rower challenges, we’re helping students discover the joy of physical activity. This approach not only boosts their health and wellbeing but also instils a lifelong appreciation for staying active.
