Live To Row Community Project

Rowing for Wellness: Live to Row Finds Success in East Devon

LED has teamed up with local Physiotherapist Olivia Chuter to launch a thriving community rowing program. At LED we are committed to working with out community to be healthier and get more out of life. We do this through a number of different community programmes where we engage people from across our local community and bring them together with a shared goal!

Live to Row, a unique initiative born from a partnership between LED and experienced physiotherapist Olivia Chuter, has been empowering women in East Devon to rediscover their fitness and well-being. been funded as part of EDDC’s Leisure Outreach Programme, which received funding under the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund

Olivia, recognising the challenges faced by working mothers in returning to exercise, conceived the program with rowing as the cornerstone. This low-impact activity provides a fantastic cardiovascular workout while minimising the risk of injury.

A Holistic Approach to Fitness and Wellbeing:

Live to Row goes beyond traditional fitness classes. Olivia tailor’s workouts to individual needs, incorporating a diverse range of exercises:

  • Rowing Technique: Focus on proper form to maximize efficiency and minimise strain.
  • Interval Training: Enhance cardiovascular fitness and build endurance.
  • Core and Pelvic Floor Work: Strengthen crucial muscles for overall health and postpartum recovery.
  • Kettlebell Training: Integrate strength training for improved muscle tone and definition.

A Supportive Community for Mums:

Live to Row has blossomed into a thriving community of over 50 women. The program provides a safe and supportive space for mothers of all ages to:

  • Exercise together: Enjoy the camaraderie and motivation of a group setting.
  • Address shared concerns: Discuss topics such as menopause, nutrition, and work/life balance.
  • Improve physical and mental well-being: Enhance fitness levels, boost energy, and reduce stress.

The success of Live to Row has inspired further growth. The program now offers junior sessions for boys and girls, catering to a broader age range from 16 to 85. This expansion reflects Olivia’s dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of the entire East Devon community.

Olivia says, “I have very much enjoyed establishing and developing the indoor rowing classes and I am immensely proud of all class participants. I love seeing improvements in all class members, women are feeling fitter, stronger and more confident about themselves. The group environment brings people together and offers support and laughter when needed. I am looking forward to developing these classes for more people!”

Rosie, Live to Row member says, “As I mother of 3 children I have really enjoyed getting fit again by rowing regularly on ergos with Liv. It’s an opportunity to work on cardio fitness as well as core and pelvic floor exercise and it’s fun, friendly and sociable. Love it!”
