LED Community Leisure issues the following statement from CEO Olly Swayne in response to East Devon District Council’s decision to initiate a full competitive tender for its leisure services contract.
“LED has served the people of East Devon for 20 years, and I feel great pride and humility witnessing the passion, professionalism and honest hard work shown by our teams every day. Our mission has always been to help people feel better and get more out of life, and that commitment continues.
We recognise that the agreement with the Council needs updating to reflect how leisure services operate today, alongside changes in local government, community needs, health and wellbeing, and national leisure trends. Reviews of this kind are standard practice across the UK, and while the Council’s decision to proceed with a full competitive tender naturally introduces uncertainty, LED will present a strong, community-focused, and forward-looking proposal as part of the process.
Our teams take enormous pleasure in supporting our communities and are grateful for the positive feedback we receive. Over two decades, LED’s leisure services contract has sat within a growing portfolio of activities designed for the benefit of East Devon, and both our Trustees and staff remain committed to expanding our reach and increasing our social impact.
I want to reassure our members, staff, and partners that nothing is changing in how we operate. Centres, programmes, roles, and services continue as normal. Jobs are secure, and our focus remains on delivering the high-quality leisure experiences our communities expect. We will engage constructively and professionally at every stage of the tender process.
Finally, thank you to our teams. Your dedication, care, and common humanity shine through every day. Let’s continue supporting our communities and creating brilliant leisure experiences and active communities for residents and visitors of East Devon.”
