Exmouth Tennis Centre LTA Schools Roadshow
Exmouth Tennis Centre was buzzing with energy on the 13th and 14th June as we welcomed an incredible 480 children to the courts as part of an exciting LTA Schools Roadshow programme.
Following a successful week working directly with local schools, this event brought children from across the community together to experience tennis in a fun, welcoming and engaging environment.
Across the two days, we delivered five action-packed sessions, each carefully designed to introduce children to the basics of tennis while building confidence, teamwork and a love for being active.
Bringing Tennis to Life
The sessions were all about making tennis accessible and enjoyable for every child, regardless of ability or experience. With support from the LTA programme, activities were adapted to suit different ages and skill levels, ensuring that everyone could get involved and feel part of the experience.
Children took part in:
- Simple rally and coordination games
- Team based challenges to build confidence and communication

- Fun competitions designed to develop skills without pressure
- Introductory match play in a supportive setting
The focus wasn’t just on technique, it was about creating a positive first experience of tennis and showing that the sport is for everyone.
Linking Schools to Community Sport
The roadshow followed a week long programme of school visits, where coaches introduced tennis during PE sessions and assemblies. This approach is a key part of the LTA’s aim to connect schools with local venues, making it easier for children to continue playing beyond the classroom.
By bringing those same children into Exmouth Tennis Centre, we were able to:
- Create a clear pathway from school sport into community participation
- Help children feel familiar and comfortable in a local sports setting
- Show parents and teachers the opportunities available outside school time
- Encourage regular participation in a fun and supportive environment
A Great Community Effort
The success of the two-day event was down to a fantastic team effort. Coaches, staff, and partners worked together to create a welcoming atmosphere where children felt encouraged and supported throughout.
There was a real sense of excitement across the sessions, with plenty of smiles, laughter and enthusiasm on display. For many children, this was their first experience of tennis and for others, it helped build confidence to take the next step in their journey.
