Supporting Community Health Together: NHS Community Assessment Day at Exmouth
At LED Community Leisure Exmouth, we were proud to support a new initiative in partnership with the NHS through a Community Assessment Day bringing essential health services and local support together in one accessible location.
The event provided participants with the opportunity to receive a range of clinical assessments, helping them better understand their current health and any next steps they may need to take. Alongside this, attendees were able to connect with a wide variety of community services offering wellbeing support, lifestyle advice, and preventative health guidance.

By bringing these services together under one roof, the day made it easier for individuals to access support in a relaxed and familiar environment. It also encouraged open conversations around health, helping people feel more confident about seeking help and making positive changes.
The event showcased the strength of local partnership working, with organisations coming together to provide a coordinated approach to care. From NHS teams delivering assessments, to community providers offering ongoing support, it demonstrated how collaboration can create a smoother, more joined-up experience for residents.
This is exactly the kind of approach that supports the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan focusing on prevention, early intervention, and community based care. It also aligns closely with our shared commitment alongside East Devon District Council to improve health outcomes and reduce barriers to accessing support across our communities.
At LED, we believe our leisure centres play a vital role in supporting wider health and wellbeing, not just through physical activity, but by acting as trusted community hubs. Events like this highlight how our spaces can be used to connect people with the services they need, when they need them.
There was a real sense of teamwork and positive energy throughout the day, with staff, partners, and participants all playing an important role in creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. From the moment people arrived, there was a clear sense that this was more than just an assessment event it was a community coming together with a shared purpose. Colleagues from the NHS worked seamlessly alongside local organisations, while our on-site teams ensured that every visitor felt comfortable, informed, and supported throughout their visit.
It was particularly encouraging to see so many people actively engaging with the services available asking questions, seeking advice, and taking the time to better understand their own health and wellbeing. For many, this was an opportunity to access support they may not otherwise have reached, and to begin making small but meaningful changes that can have a lasting impact over time. These moments are incredibly important, as they often represent the first step on someone’s journey towards improved health.
Events like this highlight the true value of bringing services closer to the community, breaking down barriers, and creating environments where people feel empowered to take control of their wellbeing. They also demonstrate the strength of partnership working where shared knowledge, resources, and expertise come together to provide a more holistic and coordinated approach to care.
This event marks another important step forward in strengthening our partnership approach and building more opportunities for integrated, community based support in the future. By continuing to work closely with the NHS and our local partners, we can expand the reach of initiatives like this, ensuring that more people across East Devon have access to the help and guidance they need.
We are excited about what comes next and remain fully committed to developing innovative, inclusive programmes that make a genuine difference helping our communities to feel better and get more out of life.
